The origin of this event traces back to Mr. Chang Chih-Chen, a Distinguished Citizen of Tainan. After winning acclaim overseas, his heart always remained tied to his homeland, constantly yearning to elevate Tainan's choral music standards and contribute to his birthplace.

Thirty years ago, he began flying back to Taiwan every three months at his own expense, volunteering to coach school choir clubs. However, with each visit lasting only one or two days, he could only instruct one or two schools at a time. This sparked an inspiring idea: If students from various schools could be gathered together—with their own teachers first training them on the repertoire and memorizing the lyrics—Director Chang could then refine and polish their performance during an intensive joint workshop. Wouldn’t this benefit far more teachers and students simultaneously?
Thus, the "Joyful Singing" series was born.
Apart from a brief hiatus due to the pandemic, the event has now successfully reached its 9th edition. From its inaugural year themed "Three Pillars of Life, Blessed with Song " to the recent "Joyful Singing 115 ", the number of registrants has skyrocketed over the years, reaching an impressive high of 500 participants. This initiative has inspired countless students to embrace the joy of singing, introduced the citizens of Tainan to the sublime beauty of choral music, and continues to passionately drive the mission of local choral education.
