Thank you, Chishang, for allowing me to truly know the land once more—to understand the dawns, the dusks, and the turning of the seasons.
The rumble of thunder during the Awakening of Insects; the sweet fragrance of chinaberry trees during the Spring Equinox; the swelling ears of rice during Grain Buds; and the silvergrass blanketing the mountains and fields after the Frost's Descent...
The summer lotuses paired with afternoon thundershowers; the vibrant crimson of the coral trees; the dangling clusters of shell ginger; Vega and Altair flanking the Milky Way during the Qixi Festival; and the autumn moonlight intertwined with the scent of sweet osmanthus...
The Xinwulu Creek murmurs gently away. In spring, swallows build their nests beneath the eaves. A Hakka mother sun-dries preserved radishes atop the wall. A fresh jar of rice wine is uncorked—"How fragrant..." I find myself sighing in endless wonder.
