Celebrating its 60th anniversary, Theater Hikosen has long been dedicated to creating a stage where children can freely surrender to their imaginations. Through familiar melodies, nuanced movements, and expressive characters, fairy tales are no longer merely "watched"—they are truly "felt."
As the house lights dim and the story unfolds, children witness the grand adventure of Snow White, while adults may unexpectedly rediscover the world they once believed in. This is more than just a performance for children; it is a tender moment for parents and children to cherish together.
History of Theater Hikosen
Founded in 1966, Theater Hikosen is a premier masked-play theater company that redefines traditional puppetry. Boasting a team of over 180 members, the company has toured more than 20 countries. Each year, three separate troupes conduct over 500 performances across Japan.
The performers of Hikosen wear exquisite masks and costumes, transforming into life-sized, vintage-style puppets. Every actor is professionally trained in ballet and gymnastics, ensuring fluid and graceful expression. Their signature style combines elaborate masks, stunning costumes, and intricate sets to create a breathtaking visual experience. By blending cinematic magic with live stagecraft, Theater Hikosen brings the "Truth, Kindness, and Beauty" of classic fairy tales to life through song and dance.
