The warm and gentle month of May belongs to mothers. During this time, songs praising maternal love echo through every street, flowers bloom in abundance, department stores flash with luxury, and restaurants tempt us with mouthwatering delicacies.
While the greatness of maternal love is unparalleled and widely celebrated in literature and poetry, praise for fathers is often scarce. In reality, a father, silent as a mountain, holds a love for us that is just as monumental. Fathers never envy or complain about the enthusiastic celebrations of Mother's Day; instead, they applaud and cheer along. How can such a broad-minded and noble spirit not move our hearts? This coming Father’s Day on August 8th, our troupe will host the "Father's Love Like a Mountain" Concert at the Tainan Cultural Center Auditorium to sing praises of paternal love and greatness, while expressing our deepest remembrance and gratitude to the fathers who have passed on to heaven.
This concert curates and creates pieces dedicated to paternal love, presented through two mediums: "Vocal Music" and "Instrumental Music." Guided by our host's engaging commentary and interactive sing-alongs, the audience will enjoy a double harvest of intellectual and emotional fulfillment. We warmly invite children to accompany their fathers to this special event.
Vocal Music: Features diverse textures including solos, mixed choir, and a three-part women's choir.
Instrumental Music: Formed by a unique mandolin orchestra—the pride of Greater Tainan—blended with wind and percussion instruments to handle all ensemble and accompaniment duties.
The repertoire spans songs in Taiwanese, Mandarin, English, and Japanese, each capturing the nostalgia and adoration for fathers. Moving from the classic childhood tune "My Big Brother and Papa are Grand" to the emotional encore "Any Empty Wine Bottles for Sale?" (Papa, Can You Hear Me Sing?), the performance promises a deeply moving experience that may well move the audience to tears.
Originally a social service troupe under the China Youth Corps specializing in music, song, and dance, our team holds beautiful memories of early troop-cheering performances, nursing home visits, and open-air shows in department store courtyards and historic temple plazas.
Since transitioning into a formal choral society, we have actively engaged in charitable performances. Our stellar teamwork earned us the honor of becoming a resident troupe at the National Tainan Living Art Center. Aligning with the center’s cultural policies over the past decade, our numerous "art-to-the-countryside" tours remain our most cherished memories. Our musical reputation has expanded to Chiayi, Pingtung, and Kaohsiung. Sixteen years ago, we established an affiliated Mandolin Orchestra, making us one of the rare "dual-discipline (vocal and instrumental) crossover troupes" in Taiwan.
Conductor: Mr. Pan Chao-Nan
A graduate of Tainan Normal School and National Cheng Kung University, Mr. Pan has dedicated a full sexagenary cycle (60 years) to music education. Proficient in music theory and a wide array of instruments, he is celebrated as an all-around musician. During his three-decade tenure at Liren Elementary School, he founded and trained various music troupes for both teachers and students, laying the cornerstone for the school's music education. Following his retirement, he volunteered at the National Museum of Taiwan Literature, Chimei Museum, and the Tainan Art Museum, while offering pro bono guidance to several choirs and orchestras. He also assisted the Cultural Center in providing free instrument lessons for underprivileged children, earning widespread recognition as an exemplary educator. His dedicated philanthropy was recognized with the "Social Education Public Welfare Award" from the Ministry of Education, and 14 years ago, he was honored with the prestigious "Educational Dedication Award" presented by the President.
Assistant Conductor: Mr. Yang Chuan-Yi
A graduate of National Chung Hsing University, Mr. Yang has been deeply passionate about choral performance since his high school and university days. Gifted with a natural, beautiful voice, he spent many years singing in the Tainan Mixed Choir under the mentorship of Maestro Wang Tzu-Miao, where he was highly valued and nurtured. Currently, in addition to serving as the assistant conductor of our troupe, he is frequently invited to support and perform with other musical ensembles.
Assistant Conductor: Ms. Pan Liang-Yin
Ms. Pan graduated from the Department of Physical Education and holds a Master’s degree from the Graduate Institute of Music at National Tainan University. Exceptionally talented in both academics and athletics, she utilizes her spare time outside of school to assist in directing the Liren Elementary School Children's String Orchestra, guiding them to multiple "Outstanding" awards in various music competitions.
